Why BCCI is skipping ACC meeting in Dhaka?

Board of Control for Cricket in India or as we know them BCCI has reportedly opted out of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) meeting set for late July in Dhaka, due to geopolitical tensions. This decision puts an uncertainty over the Asia Cup 2025, scheduled for September in the UAE, raising questions about India’s participation and the tournament’s fate. With that in mind we ask the question why BCCI is skipping ACC meeting in Dhaka?

Why is BCCI Skipping the ACC Meeting?

The BCCI’s refusal to attend the Dhaka meeting comes from strained diplomatic relations with Bangladesh, which have been stronger than usual due to recent political unrest. The board, which recently deferred a planned white-ball series against Bangladesh from August 2025 to September 2026, finds the ACC’s choice of venue insensitive.

A BCCI official emphasized the geopolitical complexities in the region, noting that the board has formally communicated its concerns to the ACC, led by Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Mohsin Naqvi.

The BCCI has proposed a neutral venue, such as Dubai, and warned it may withdraw from the meeting entirely if Dhaka remains the location. This stance reflects broader tensions, including India’s reluctance to engage in cricketing events involving Pakistan, further complicated by the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22.

What Does It Mean for the Asia Cup?

The BCCI’s absence from the ACC meeting forecasts and uncertainty over the Asia Cup 2025, which was set for September in the UAE due to an agreement preventing Pakistan from touring India. With Sri Lanka also opting out of the Dhaka meeting, the tournament’s planning faces significant hurdles.

The BCCI is awaiting government approval to finalize its participation, particularly regarding matches against Pakistan. If unresolved, the BCCI may pull out entirely, potentially leading to the tournament’s cancellation or a shift to a multi-nation event. Alternative offers from boards like Sri Lanka and England for bilateral series in August signal the BCCI’s intent to keep the Indian team active, further complicating the Asia Cup’s future.
