Punjab Kings Head Coach For IPL 2025
In a significant move for the IPL franchise Punjab Kings, former Australia captain and one of cricket’s most celebrated players has been named the team’s new head coach.
Ponting has replaced England’s Trevor Bayliss, who was the head coach of the Punjab franchise, under which PBKS failed to reach playoffs.
According to media reports, Ponting was in talks with three IPL teams before finalizing a deal with PBKS. The majestic cricketer, who has won the most ICC trophies as captain, was with the Delhi Capitals for the last seven years before parting ways following the IPL 2024 season. He previously worked with Mumbai Indians.
Under Ponting, the Delhi Capitals reached the playoffs three times in a row from 2019 to 2021, and also reached their first-ever final in 2020.
The legendary player had a winning run with the Washington Freedom in MLC 2024, and he also shared his desire to secure yet another opportunity in IPL after leaving DC.

Ponting is PBKS’ third coach in four years, but the franchise is optimistic with the arrival of the Aussie legend. With the mega auction to be held before the IPL 2025 event, Ponting’s appointment would be beneficial because he will pick the best set of players as well as he will pick the right players which the franchise can retain and the potential leader after Shikhar Dhawan recently announced his retirement.

Punjab Kings journey in IPL
Punjab Kings (formerly Kings XI Punjab) has not won any title despite being a part of the tournament since its inception in 2008.
Not to mention, PBKS managed to reach playoffs only two teams in seventeen seasons, with their best remained IPL 2014, where they advanced to finale but missed the chance to lift the trophy.
