Who is Jitesh Sharma?
Team India’s wicketkeeper-batsman Sanju Samson has been ruled out of the T20 series due to injury.
The BCCI announced Jitesh Sharma as his replacement and confirmed the development. Jitesh was never expected to be selected, but due to Rishabh Pant’s accident and KL Rahul’s absence, the wicketkeeper-batter from Punjab Kings will now be a part of the Indian team.
After spending a lot of time on the bench in 2022 Sanju Samson, who was a member of India’s playing XI against Sri Lanka in the first T20I in Mumbai, struggled with both bat and then in fielding that is considered as another opportunity missed for the player who is getting much support.
Samson made a fielding error early in the Lankan innings by failing to catch a routine ball, and he later hurt his knee when playing defence close to the boundary ropes.

Who is Jitesh Sharma?
Jitesh Sharma is known for his all-out attacking approach at the top of the order. He was born on October 22, 1993 in Amrawati, Maharashtra. Sharma previously played for the Mumbai Indians, who bought him in the 2016 IPL auction after seeing success in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy in 2015–16. Sharma has now joined the Punjab Kings.
Jitesh represents Vidarbha in domestic cricket, and he made his Ranji debut in 2015 against Odhisa.
Jitesh has played in 176 T20 games, and during those games, he has scored 1787 runs at a strike rate of almost 148. His statistics include a 30.28 average, a highest score of 106, nine 50s, and one 100. In 23 first-class innings, Sharma has accumulated 553 runs at an average of 24.04 and three fifty-sevens.

Punjab Kings player Jitesh Sharma made his Indian Premier League (IPL) debut against Chennai Super Kings in the previous season, scoring a 17-ball 26.
Sharma played 12 innings in last season’s IPL. He amassed 234 runs at a strike rate of 163.64 with a highest score of 44.
Sharma, 29, is the third Vidarbha player now part of team India after Umesh Yadav and Faiz Fazal.
In the second T20I on Thursday, India will attempt to take an unbeatable 2-0 lead against Sri Lanka. The series finale will take place on Saturday in Rajkot.
