Who is Akash Deep? The pacer who dismantled Bangladesh’s top-order in Chennai Test
Akash Deep, the promising fast bowler from India, was born on December 15, 1993, in Rohtas District, Bihar. Despite his passion for cricket, Akash faced opposition from his parents, who wanted him to focus on academic studies and pursue a government job.
In 2010, Akash initially ventured to Durgapur, West Bengal, in search of employment prospects. However, he found unwavering support from his uncle, who assisted him in joining a local cricket academy. It was there that Akash’s remarkable pace and skill on the field started to attract attention. Unfortunately, family responsibilities necessitated his departure from the sport for a period of three years.

From Domestic Leagues to International Cricket
Determined to pursue his cricketing dreams, Akash Deep resumed playing with the United Club in the CAB’s Second Division League after relocating to Kolkata. His dedication and talent did not go unnoticed, as he earned a spot in the Bengal Under-23 team in 2019. That same year, he marked his senior debut for Bengal across all three cricket formats.
First Class Debut
On 25th December 2019, Akash Deep made his first-class debut for Bengal in the 2019–20 Ranji Trophy, showcasing an outstanding performance by claiming six wickets. Throughout that season, he proved to be a pivotal player for Bengal, securing a total of 35 wickets and significantly contributing to the team’s journey to the final. His remarkable bowling skills did not go unnoticed, leading to his selection by the IPL team Royal Challengers Bangaluru, where he marked his IPL debut in 2022.
International Debut
Following his standout performances in domestic cricket and the IPL, Akash Deep’s talent earned him a call-up to the Indian national team as a replacement for Deepak Chahar due to an injury.

However, he did not have the opportunity to play in any matches during that period. Nevertheless, his impressive form led to another call-up, this time for the India Test team against England. It was a momentous occasion for Akash Deep as he received his debut cap from the esteemed former head coach Rahul Dravid.
Duleep Trophy Success
In recent days, he featured in the Duleep Trophy where picked 9 wickets in 1st match representing India A, his stellar performance in the tournament earned him the position in the Indian Test squad against Bangladesh, in this ongoing Test match against Bangladesh, Akash is already picked 2 wickets in his second over with his remarkable pace.
