Who has Most Catches for India in International Cricket?
Most Catches for India in International Cricket: Indian cricket legend Virat Kohli added another record to his already illustrious career during the Champions Trophy 2025 semi-final against Australia on March 4 at the Dubai International Stadium.
The star batter, known for his sharp reflexes and athleticism, surpassed Rahul Dravid to become India’s most successful non-wicketkeeper fielder in international cricket.
The record-breaking moment came when Kohli grabbed a sharp catch at short cover to dismiss Josh Inglis off Ravindra Jadeja’s bowling. This marked Kohli’s 335th international catch, pushing him past Rahul Dravid’s tally of 334 catches. Interestingly, Dravid’s record included 332 catches for India and two while representing the Asia XI and World XI.
Kohli also took another catch in the game to remove Nathan Ellis, which was his 336th catch, with this milestone, he firmly establishes himself as India’s finest fielder. His ability to consistently hold onto crucial catches across formats has been a key asset for the Indian team.
Kohli’s catching records across formats
Kohli’s remarkable fielding record extends beyond just international cricket. With 161 ODI catches, he has now surpassed Ricky Ponting (160) to become the second-most successful fielder in ODI history. He also has 121 Test catches, ranking third among Indians, behind Dravid (210) and VVS Laxman (135). In T20Is, he has taken 54 catches, placing him behind only Rohit Sharma (65) among Indian players.
Globally, Kohli now ranks fifth in the list of most international catches by a non-wicketkeeper. Only Jacques Kallis (338), Ross Taylor (351), Ricky Ponting (364), and Mahela Jayawardene (440) have taken more catches in world cricket. Given Kohli’s fitness and longevity, he has a strong chance of climbing further up the ranks.
The legacy of a complete cricketer
Kohli’s achievement is yet another testament to his all-round brilliance. While he is celebrated for his batting supremacy, his fitness, agility, and sharp anticipation on the field make him one of the finest fielders cricket has ever seen.
