Washington Sundar Injury: All-rounder Washington Sundar has been ruled out of the Zimbabwe tour as he sustained a left shoulder injury during the Royal London One Day Cup game in England.
Again an injury put Sundar’s return to international cricket on hold as after missing couple of important series this year he is now forced out of 3-match ODI series against Zimbabwe starting August 18.
The brilliant all-around spin bowler from Tamil Nadu has had a difficult past year, missing series after series owing to various ailments and Covid 19-related problems.
“Yes, Washington Sundar is ruled out of the Zimbabwe series. He has suffered an injury on his left shoulder while fielding during Royal London Cup game between Lancashire and Worcestershire at Old Trafford. He will have to undergo rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy,” a senior BCCI source told PTI on conditions of anonymity.
“You feel for Washi. Such a talented guy. Somehow or the other, the rub of the green isn’t going his way. He needs some luck. The latest injury is a freak one as he was just about to play for India in a week,” another official privy to the development said.
The tale of Washington’s never-ending illnesses began when he fractured his finger during a warm-up game for Combined Counties against team India in July 2021.
He participated in county play so that India could evaluate all of its players before to the start of the series.
He missed the entire domestic season as a result of the injury, and before the South Africa white ball series in January 2022, he suffered Covid19.
He missed the two home white ball series against the West Indies and Sri Lanka in February and March due to a hamstring issue.
The BCCI helped him secure a county contract with Lancashire after a lengthy rehabilitation, and he also produced a five-wicket performance for the “Roses” in a day’s game.
The 22-year-old has so far competed in four tests, four ODIs, and thirty-one T20Is.
