Hayden, one of the most dangerous opening batters of his time, wreaked havoc on the cricket field with his destructive batting in ODIs in 2007. He contributed significantly to Australia’s win in the 2007 ODI World Cup, with 659 runs in 11 innings in the mega event at a strike-rate of 101.07. Overall, he struck 1601, ranking fifth on the list of most runs in a calendar year.

Also known as ‘God of Cricket’, Sachin Tendulkar was a force to reckon with during his playing days and has smashed many records, which are still unbeatable despite he retired from the international cricket long back. Sachin scored 1611 in 32 matches in 1996 and is in fourth spot on the list.

Generally known for his defensive play, former Indian captain serves as a brilliant ODI batter and has scored more than 10000 runs in one-day internationals. In 1999, he shocked the bowlers with his anchor play, scoring 1761 runs, which is the third best on the list.

The architect of the fearless team India, Sourav Ganguly, not played revolutionized the whole scenario of the Indian cricket with his tactics on field, but also played his part as a batter despite leadership pressure. His clean striking and defensive play alongside Rahul Dravid in 1999 made the matches more exciting. He added six runs extra than Dravid, with 1767 in 1999 he is in second position.
