What Will be Team India Test Future Without RO-KO in WTC 2025-27?
Team India is at a crossroad after two of their veterans Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli announced retirements from Test Cricket. With India set to tour England from June 20, BCCI is yet to finalize the squad for the tour, let’s take a look at Team India’s test future without RO-KO in WTC 2025-27.
New Leadership at Hand
With Rohit Sharma retired from Test Format, the leadership role hangs in doubt, with Jasprit Bumrah and Shubman Gill in contention for the role to be filled. Jasprit Bumrah, has already led the squad in the first test against Australia in BGT 2024-2025. He has showcased the potential to be capable of leading the team. On the other hand, Shubman Gill, will be new to the role, and will need time in his hands to adjust to his possible new role.
On the contrary, Ravindra Jadeja who is a senior in the squad, could also be a leading figure to handle the reins of the team in the WTC 2025-27 cycle for India. India after two consecutive losses in the previous WTC’s will be aiming to start fresh this season, in bid to get their hands on the ultimate prize.
Pressure on Players
Although the squad is yet to be announced, the pressure will be an integral part of the new age squad for the WTC 2025-27 as Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will not be part of the test format anymore. The players will be facing England first, who will not be easy opponents to beat. However the test-series against England will test the squad in terms of chemistry, form, and their overall performance as a team. Which will ensure their long-term success for India’s success in Test format.
India has been showcasing why they are a dominant force in ODI’s and T20I’s, with a new and upcoming squad for the tests, team India will try to imitate their dominance in the test format as well.
