The dramatic reversal
Rajasthan Royals, who started the campaign on a solid note with 8 wins in their first 9 games to be in top spot on the points table and were on the verge of becoming the first team to qualify and make their chances strong for a top-2 finish.
The Royals failed to carry forward the momentum, losing their next 4 games to depend on other teams’ results for their final position.
May 19th was their only hope, as both games were related to their position. The first game saw SRH win the match and move into second position with 17 points. The Royals still had the chance to overtake Hyderabad, but the weather hampered their hopes as that match was called off, forcing the Royals to finish the league stage in third place.
While the miraculous story of Royal Challengers Bengaluru stunned everyone, as at one stage RCB was in tenth spot after losing 7 off their first 8 games, booked playoffs berth by winning their next 6 in a row.
