After a six-year hiatus, the T20 Mumbai League is back and it’s making a statement. Slated to run from May 26 to June 8 at the iconic Wankhede Stadium, the league’s third edition promises not just competitive cricket but a showcase of Mumbai’s rich cricketing pedigree. A total of eight icon players, each with experience on the international stage, have been named to headline this year’s franchises. Prithvi Shaw, once hailed as the next big thing in Indian cricket, finds himself at a career crossroads. Despite being released by Delhi Capitals and going unsold in the IPL 2025 auction, Shaw is now looking to make a strong comeback on home soil. Interestingly, some believed the 25-year-old would be a natural fit at Chennai Super Kings, especially in the absence of Ruturaj Gaikwad, but the franchise opted to back young talent Ayush Mhatre instead.

Joining Shaw in the icon players’ list are household names like Suryakumar Yadav, Shreyas Iyer, and Ajinkya Rahane, along with rising stars Shivam Dube, Tushar Deshpande, Shardul Thakur, and Sarfaraz Khan. While Shaw’s recent form has been modest. He scored 197 runs in 9 matches during Mumbai’s victorious Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy campaign. The Mumbai Indians stalwart, Suryakumar Yadav has already racked up 427 runs in 10 matches this IPL season, underscoring his consistency.
Each T20 Mumbai League franchise will be allowed to sign one icon player, bringing both star value and leadership to the squad. The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) is expected to announce the player auction date soon, with over 2800 players having registered — a clear indication of the growing enthusiasm and opportunities the league represents.
