SRH HCA Ticket Controversy: Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) has accused Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) president Jagan Mohan Rao of blackmail, force, and threatening the team’s staff at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad for the ongoing IPL 2025 League. The SRH team, owned by the Chennai-based Sun Group, claimed that Rao locked the F3 corporate box hours before SRH’s match against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on March 27, 2025, to exert pressure for 20 additional complimentary tickets.
SRH also informed the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) about the situation while acknowledging the support of other HCA officials, such as the Secretary and CEO.
SRH accused Rao of demanding that a significant portion of the tickets be reserved for his personal use, including an additional 2500 tickets, over and above the 3900 complimentary tickets typically provided to HCA. Despite concerns about transparency and the potential for black market sales, SRH was forced to accommodate some of Rao’s demands, though they insisted that payments be made through the official HCA bank account to ensure transparency.
Further, SRH disputed claims that the franchise agreed to give 20 tickets in a different box, emphasizing that the allocation process had been historically followed without issue. SRH also criticized Rao for taking credit for stadium renovations, which were funded by the Sun Group, leading to a public dispute over who was responsible for the upgrades.
SRH Requests Council Meeting to Resolve Ticket Dispute with HCA
SRH has requested a meeting with the HCA Apex Council to resolve the matter and present evidence of their claims. They emphasized that their intention was always to handle the issue amicably, but after Rao’s actions, including locking the corporate box and blackmailing for tickets, they had no choice but to escalate the situation. As of now, the HCA has not responded to SRH’s request for a meeting.
