SL vs WI 3rd T20I Highlights for West Indies tour of Sri Lanka, 2024

Sri Lanka defeated West Indies by nine wickets in the third and final T20I to win the three-match series 2-1 on Thursday. So let’s take a look at SL vs WI 3rd T20I Highlights.

After losing the opening game of the series, the hosts made a solid comeback and recorded back-to-back wins to secure the series.  

Chasing a target of 163 in the decider at Dambulla, Sri Lanka batters took only 18 overs to complete the task and hand their side a comprehensive win.  

The hosts scored 67 during the powerplay. Pathum Nissanka provided Sri Lanka a fantastic start with his 22-ball 39. Kusal Perera and Kusal Mendis both remained at the crease till the end and only returned to pavilion after completing the winning deal.  

Perera remained unbeaten at 55 off 36, while Kusal Mendis scored not out 68 off 50.

Earlier, West Indies managed to post a total of 162 thanks to their lower middle order. Captain Rovman Powell rescued the side and scored the highest for his side after West Indies lost half of their batters at 62.  

Powell and Gudakesh Motie’s 54-run stand, in which Motie played the role of aggressor and scored a 15-ball 32 was crucial in steading the Caribbean’s ship.  

Captain Powell then added 31 for the seventh wicket in 21 balls alongside Romario Shepherd before leaving the field at 37 off 27.  

Sri Lanka spinners grabbed five off the seven wickets, with Maheesh Theekshana, Wanindu Hasaranga secured 2-2 each. While Kamindu Mendis took a scalp.

Kusal Mendis ended the three-match series as the highest run-getter with 112 at a strike-rate of 125.84. 

Maheesh Theekshana and Wanindu Hasaranga both bagged 5 wickets each and ended the series the as highest wicket takers in the three-match competition.

It was Sri Lanka’s third straight home series win in last three months after defeating India in the ODI series in August, New Zealand in Test series in September.
