Sri Lanka vs Australia 2nd ODI Highlights

Sri Lanka posted a competitive total of 281/4 in their allotted 50 overs against Australia, thanks to solid contributions from their middle order.

After losing Pathum Nissanka early for just 6 runs, dismissed by Aaron Hardie, Sri Lanka found stability through Nishan Madushka, who played a fluent knock of 51 off 70 balls. Kusal Mendis anchored the innings with a well-crafted 101 off 115 balls, hitting 11 boundaries with a strike rate of 87.83. His crucial partnerships kept the scoreboard ticking despite the Australian bowlers maintaining pressure.

Captain Charith Asalanka provided the much-needed late flourish, smashing an unbeaten 78 off 66 balls at a strike rate of 118.18, while Janith Liyanage supported him with a steady 32* off 21 balls, accelerating towards the end.

For Australia, Ben Dwarshuis was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 1/47 in 10 overs, while Adam Zampa chipped in with 1/47 as well. Sean Abbott’s economical spell of 1/41 helped contain the Sri Lankan innings.

Chasing a challenging target of 282, Australia struggled from the start as Asitha Fernando struck early, dismissing Matthew Short (2) and Jake Fraser-McGurk (9) in quick succession. Travis Head’s promising start of 18 runs ended when he fell to Asitha as well, leaving Australia in deep trouble at 33/3.

Captain Steven Smith (29) showed some resistance but found little support from the middle order. Wanindu Hasaranga (3/23) and Dunith Wellalage (4/35) spun a web around the Australian batters, dismantling the lineup with precision. Glenn Maxwell (1) and Aaron Hardie (0) departed cheaply, further deepening Australia’s woes.

Josh Inglis (22) offered a brief fight, but wickets continued to tumble rapidly. Ben Dwarshuis (9) and Adam Zampa (8) added a few runs, but it wasn’t enough as Sri Lanka’s bowlers dominated throughout.
