Shami Joins LSG for IPL 2026 as BCCI Confirms Official Trades

The BCCI has officially released the complete list of successful trades ahead of the IPL 2026 retention deadline. Several high-profile cricketers have switched teams, with one of the biggest moves involving senior India pacer Mohammed Shami. The announcement ends days of speculation around major transfers across franchises. So let’s have a look at Shami Joins LSG for IPL 2026 as BCCI Confirms.

Mohammed Shami Completes Trade to Lucknow Super Giants

Mohammed Shami has officially joined Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) for IPL 2026, ending his stint with Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). The trade has been finalized as an all-cash deal worth INR 10 crore, the same amount SRH had paid for him at the 2025 mega auction.

LSG were not the only team chasing Shami—Delhi Capitals had also expressed strong interest. However, SRH chose LSG’s offer after evaluating all proposals. The 35-year-old pacer is now set to bolster LSG’s fast-bowling group for the upcoming season.

Why SRH Moved On from Shami

Shami’s future at SRH became uncertain after a challenging IPL 2025 campaign. He played nine matches, taking only six wickets at an average of 56.16 and an economy of 11.23. His struggles in the powerplay, historically his strongest phase, further raised concerns.

SRH head coach Daniel Vettori and the management deliberated heavily before finally accepting LSG’s trade offer. The move also aligns with Shami’s current phase, as he has been dealing with form and fitness issues and has not featured for India since the Champions Trophy final in March 2025.

At LSG, Shami will reunite with former India bowling coach Bharat Arun, now spearheading talent development at the franchise—a partnership that previously shaped India’s lethal pace attack.

Other Major IPL 2026 Trades Confirmed

Alongside Shami’s high-profile switch, several other trades were ratified:

Nitish Rana to Delhi Capitals

  • Moves from Rajasthan Royals in an all-cash deal worth INR 4.2 crore.

  • DC strengthen their middle order with an experienced performer.

Donovan Ferreira to Rajasthan Royals

  • DC release Ferreira for INR 1 crore, an increase from his previous ₹75 lakh contract.

Arjun Tendulkar to LSG

  • Completes trade from Mumbai Indians for his existing fee of INR 30 lakh.

Mayank Markande Returns to Mumbai Indians

  • MI reacquire the leg-spinner for ₹30 lakh.

Blockbuster Swap: CSK ↔ RR

This is one of the biggest multi-player swaps in IPL history.

Shami–LSG Deal Awaits Final Paperwork

Like all major trades, Shami’s move will be formally ratified once the paperwork is completed and the player’s consent is received. With IPL teams required to submit their release lists by November 15, this marks the final round of major squad changes before the auction.
