Shaheen Shah Afridi Dangerous Bowling BBL Debut Ends Early
Pakistan pace spearhead Shaheen Shah Afridi endured a forgettable start to his Big Bash League career after being removed from the bowling attack for dangerous bowling during the Brisbane Heat vs Melbourne Renegades clash in Geelong on December 15. So let’s know about Shaheen Shah Afridi dangerous bowling BBL debut.
Making his much-anticipated BBL debut, Afridi struggled to find consistency with his lengths and was ultimately forced out midway through an over following two waist-high full tosses late in the Renegades’ innings.
Two waist-high full tosses trigger umpire intervention
The incident occurred in the 18th over of Melbourne Renegades’ innings. Afridi delivered consecutive waist-high full tosses — first to Tim Seifert and then to Ollie Peake — prompting the umpires to intervene under dangerous bowling regulations.
Following the ruling, Afridi was barred from completing the over. Brisbane Heat skipper Nathan McSweeney was required to step in and bowl the final two deliveries, while Afridi could only respond with a rueful smile as he walked off.
Tough outing despite bright early signs
Afridi’s final figures read 0 for 43 in just 2.4 overs, including three no-balls and two wides — a harsh introduction to the Australian T20 league. Ironically, his spell had begun on a positive note, with three dot balls in his second over raising hopes of an impactful debut.
However, his rhythm soon deserted him. After missing his lengths consistently, Afridi was not reintroduced until the 13th over, coinciding with the Renegades activating their Power Surge. That over proved costly, yielding 19 runs, before the decisive and damaging 18th over sealed his difficult night.

Renegades pile on the runs in Afridi’s absence
Capitalising on Heat’s bowling struggles, Melbourne Renegades posted a commanding total of 212 for 5. Tim Seifert led the charge with a superb century, hammering 102 runs off 56 deliveries, while Ollie Peake provided strong support with a rapid 57 off 29 balls.
Pakistan wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan, also making his BBL debut for the Renegades, had a quiet outing. Batting at No. 3, he managed just 4 runs from 10 balls before being dismissed by left-arm spinner Paddy Dooley.
Learning curve for Afridi in Australian conditions
Despite the hype surrounding his arrival, Afridi’s debut underlined the challenges fast bowlers face in adapting to Australian pitches and high-pressure T20 scenarios. While the outing will be a setback, the Heat will hope their marquee overseas recruit can regroup quickly and make a stronger impact as the tournament progresses.
