Rohit Sharma in Test Squad against England?
Reportedly, Rohit Sharma will return to the Test squad for India’s tour of England starting June 2025. In addition, as per reports, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has shortlisted a 35-member team. The squad is likely to be announced by the second week of May.
Rohit Sharma To Lead In IND vs ENG Test Series?
India’s last appearance in Tests was in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024/25. Under Rohit Sharma’s captaincy, India lost to the hosts by 3-1. Moreover, the failure of senior players was the key reason for the loss against the Pat Cummins contingent.
The captain, Rohit Sharma, had merely scored 31 runs in five innings at an average of 6.20. In fact, Rohit Sharma opted out of the Sydney Test with Bumrah leading the team. In addition, in the IND vs NZ Test in 2024, Rohit Sharma contributed only 91 runs in six innings.
Therefore, following Rohit Sharma’s performance in the previous red-ball game, his position in the Test team was uncertain. However, now his name is most likely to appear on the 35-member squad to be announced by the second week of May. Moreover, the selection committee might consider Rohit Sharma to lead the team against the England team.
Furthermore, the board might consider Karun Nair or RCB skipper Rajat Patidar for a Test comeback. In addition, Sai Sudharshan might get a potential call-up for his Test debut. Ahead of India’s Tour of England for the five-match Test series in June 2025, England is seemingly considering legendary Kiwi pacer Tim Southee for the new role. Tim Southee will probably fit in the role of fast-bowling consultant for the England team. Previously, James Anderson had the role after he retired from the Test and won’t be available for this summer due to his prior commitments.
