Shreyas Iyer, who played impressively in the ODI World 2023 also made a comeback.
But the biggest dilemma for both skipper Rohit Sharma and coach Gautam Gambhir to choose between KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant as the specialist wicketkeeper batter.
KL Rahul has been playing as the regular ODI wicketkeeper batter for India since the Asia Cup 2023 and has featured in 21 games since then, scoring 834 runs at an average of 69.50.
However, with Rishabh Pant back on field after recovering from the horrific accident he suffered in December 2022, it will be up to the captain and coach as to who they see as their potential first-choice wicketkeeper in the 50-over format.

Pant entered the Indian team as a successor of the legendary MS Dhoni for specialist wicketkeeper batter spot and has played 30 ODI matches for India, scoring 865 runs at an average of 34.60.
While both the batters are potential picks in the ODI set-up, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma also shared his views on the same topic during the pre-match press conference by saying “It’s difficult to choose between KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant. Both are match-winners in their own way. But it’s a happy problem and I want to have that kind of problem,” said Rohit Sharma.
With Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, and Shreyas Iyer are the top four set to be included in the playing 11, it will be interesting to see whether Indian management will play both the Rahul and Pant or choose one among them in the final 11.
