The Rahul-Geonka story: Sanjiv Goenka, an Indian billionaire with assets totaling more than Rs 29,211 crore, engaged in an animated conversation with wicket-keeper batsman KL Rahul after an intense IPL match. For those not in the know, Goenka is the owner of the IPL franchise Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), with Rahul as the team’s captain. In a match against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on May 8,

Last day LSG suffered a humiliating defeat playing against Sunrisers Hyderabad. SRH chased down the low target set by LSG. SRH with 10 wickets in hand and 62 balls to spare. Following the defeat, Goenka the franchise owner was seen having a heated conversation with captain KL Rahul.

While the exact words of the of the animated scene after the match was not audible. But the intensity of the exchange was tensed from their gestures. The video of their discussion has since gone viral on the internet

There LSG won the toss and chose to bat, but managed to score a low total of 164 runs. Skipper’s innings of 29 off 33 balls lacked momentum. But on the other hand Ayush Badoni (55 off 30) and Nicholas Pooran (48 off 26) backed the team with  with a strong 99-run partnership which gave a final touch to a low score.

In response, Travis Head (89 off 30) and Abhishek Sharma (75 off 28) chased down the target in less than 10 overs with 62 balls to spare with a fiery partnership. SRH has set numerous records in the past this season,  while with this massive win they etched their name in IPL history on LSG.

LSG now dipped to the sixth place on the IPL Points table with only 12 points from 12 matches. They likely need victories in both remaining games to qualify for the upcoming mega event,  IPL 2024 playoffs. As there the run rates will be the major aspects to be taken in care.

Since its inception, LSG has made it to the playoffs in both previous seasons, but remained unqualified in 2022 and 2023. Rahul was taken by LSG. It was a deal through a pre-auction draft for the two new clubs in 2022 with the fees and salary of Rs. 17 crore. Which made him the most expensive Indian player in the IPL 2024.
