PCB Shifts from Rejection to Acceptance of Hybrid Model for 2025 Champions Trophy
In the recent ICC Board meeting held on November 29, the International Cricket Council (ICC) formally addressed a significant proposal to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) regarding the upcoming 2025 Champions Trophy. So let’s take a look at PCB accepts hybrid model.
The ICC has put forth a ‘Hybrid Model’ for hosting the tournament, which requires an important decision from the PCB. Should Pakistan choose to accept this model, it would allow India to play its matches in the United Arab Emirates, mentioning ongoing security concerns associated with Indian teams traveling to Pakistan. Meanwhile, all other matches of the tournament would take place within Pakistan itself.
This proposed Hybrid Model has garnered a level of support from several ICC board members who believe that it could facilitate the smooth execution of the tournament amid regional tensions. However, in a prior stance, the PCB had firmly rejected this concept, advocating for the exclusive hosting of the tournament within Pakistan.
PCB Shifts Stance: Conditional Accepts of Hybrid Model
Nevertheless, the reports in recent developments have indicated a shift in the PCB’s position. According to reports from the PTI on Sunday, the PCB has conditionally accepted the Hybrid Model proposal for the 2025 Champions Trophy. Importantly, the final decision on this model is still under deliberation.
PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi has articulated that any agreement reached must include equitable terms, notably extending a similar hosting arrangement for future international tournaments scheduled until 2031.
On Sunday a PCB Sorce told PTI, “The current situation is that PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi has said that it will only accept hosting the Champions Trophy on a hybrid model if the board agrees that in future all ICC events will be on the same system with Pakistan not going to India to play matches,” as Quoted by “The Economic Times.”

Furthermore, the PCB wants a larger share of the money made by the ICC, as they seek a better financial deal related to hosting responsibilities. They are discussing the possibility of hosting India-Pakistan matches in Dubai if the Hybrid Model is adopted. The Champions Trophy is expected to take place from February to March 2025, with Pakistan as the main host. This event will be a great chance for Pakistan to show its cricket skills to a worldwide audience.
