Breetzke’s Historic Debut
South African opener Matthew Breetzke made history by becoming the first player to score 150 on ODI debut. The young batter played a magnificent innings, smashing 150 off 148 balls to break West Indian great Desmond Haynes’ long-standing record of 148, set against Australia in 1978.
Breetzke’s innings provided a solid foundation for South Africa after New Zealand captain Mitchell Santner opted to field first.
Partnering with fellow opener Temba Bavuma, Breetzke guided the Proteas to a steady start, capitalizing on loose deliveries. Despite losing Bavuma early, Breetzke continued his charge, supported by Jason Smith and Wiaan Mulder.

Conway played an aggressive yet controlled knock, scoring 97 before falling just short of a century. His departure did little to slow New Zealand’s momentum, as Williamson took charge, anchoring the innings with precision. The former Kiwi captain remained unbeaten on 133, guiding his team home in the 49th over.
