Latest Cricket News about BCCI Family Rules

BCCI has recently made it clear that the board is not going low for the rules pertaining to the family members. With Virat Kohli voicing his concerns and about how the rules affects the player. Let’s take a look at the Latest cricket news about BCCI family rules.

BCCI agrees Limits for Family Travel with Players

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is standing firm on its freshly rolled-out Standard Operating Procedure (SOP), which restricts family accompaniment to 14 days on overseas tours. Unveiled after India’s struggles in the Test series against Australia, this 10-point plan aims to enhance team spirit and focus. The regulation allows partners and children under 18 to travel with the squad for up to two weeks on assignments exceeding 45 days, a trial run of which occurred during the recent Champions Trophy.

BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia stated that these guidelines, born from detailed discussions, are non-negotiable. “This wasn’t a spur-of-the-moment choice; it builds on traditions from decades past, including the time of our president Roger Binny’s career,” he said. While the COVID-19 period saw families permitted throughout tours to support players well-being, the current SOP updates those provisions, aiming for a balance between personal needs and team unity.

Kohli’s Stance on the new SOP’s

Virat Kohli who celebrated India’s Champions Trophy triumph alongside wife Anushka Sharma in Dubai, voiced a desire for extended family presence. “Every player craves normalcy fulfilling duties on the pitch and then unwinding with loved ones, not brooding alone,” he remarked at a recent gathering. Yet, Saikia rebuffed any softening of the rules, highlighting that the SOP actually extends family stay durations from pre-pandemic standards and offers leeway in exceptional cases, pending head coach and board approval.

The policy binds everyone, players, coaches, and staff though the BCCI recognizes varied perspectives. Additionally, the SOP requires domestic cricket participation for national selection eligibility, with exceptions only for valid reasons approved by selectors and coaches. Saikia also clarified that Nitin Patel, sports science chief, is serving a three-month extension until March 31, 2025, dispelling resignation claims. For now, the BCCI prioritizes national interests and organizational discipline over revisions.
