As the IPL fever is going to end this coming Sunday, and now team India is gearing up for the next big series against South Africa in June. Here in this article, we talk about KL Rahul’s captaincy for South Africa series.
While all the all-format players took a rest from this series due to extreme workload and another big series against England lined up in July.
In the absence of the current captain of team India Rohit Sharma, the vice-captain KL Rahul is appointed as the captain for the South Africa series.
It was a tough challenge for the young lad to lead the Indian side in the absence of veteran players. The only senior player around him during the series will be the head of the Indian bowling department on this tour, Bhuvneshwar Kumar.
However, KL Rahul has a good experience of over 40 plus games in captaining the side. But that was in IPL. And the Indian selectors have made it very clear that they will be monitoring KL Rahul’s captaincy as a leader very closely in the upcoming series.
“It will be a great opportunity for KL. The only senior around him will be Bhuvneshwar and it will be the best test for him as a potential Indian captain. I won’t say he will be under pressure but certainly, he will be closely monitored,” a member of the selection committee told Insidesport.
Under his leadership team lost the 3-match series against South Africa in South Africa.
“See, in South Africa tour, it was a new job for him. It’s not the same as leading an IPL franchise. Leading comes with immense pressure. He made some mistakes but it was also about learning. The T20 series is where he will be benchmarked. I am sure he will do an excellent job,” the selection committee member said.
The 5-match South Africa series will start on June 09, 2022.
