Jon Lewis Takes Charge as London Spirit Women Head Coach

Jon Lewis, the former England Women’s head coach, has taken on a new role as head coach of the London Spirit Women’s team in the Hundred franchise. This appointment reunites him with Heather Knight, who recently joined the franchise as the women’s team general manager. So let’s have a look at Jon Lewis London Spirit Women coach.

Reuniting With Heather Knight

Heather Knight, the former England captain, will work closely with Lewis in her non-playing role. She will oversee staff appointments, assist in squad selection, and advise the on-field leadership group, especially during the upcoming player auction in March. Lewis and Knight last collaborated during the Ashes earlier this year, where England had a winless series, leading to Lewis losing his England head coach role and Knight stepping down as captain.

Responsibilities at London Spirit

At London Spirit, Jon Lewis will be responsible for overall team selection and performance. Lewis expressed excitement about the new challenge, stating:

“This is a really exciting opportunity to play a part in shaping the future of this franchise. I am looking forward to building a team packed with talent and character, playing cricket that Spirit fans coming to Lord’s will get behind as we aim to win a second title this summer.”

Coaching Career Highlights

Lewis has a rich coaching background, both internationally and in franchise cricket:

  • Led England Women to the semi-finals of the 2023 ICC T20 World Cup.
  • Oversaw an unbeaten summer against Pakistan and New Zealand in 2024.
  • Coached England in the 2023 home Ashes series, helping the team recover from a 6-0 deficit to draw 8-8.
  • Coached UP Warriorz in the Women’s Premier League until earlier this year.
  • Served as England Men’s elite pace bowling coach during the 2021-22 Ashes tour.
  • Worked with the ECB Young Lions and Gloucestershire as director of cricket.

Despite a group-stage exit at last year’s T20 World Cup and England’s poor Ashes results, Lewis’s experience and knowledge make him a valuable addition to London Spirit.
