The ‘Impact Player Rule’ in IPL 2023
The BCCI has incorporated a new “Impact Player” rule for the IPL 2023 that allows each club to substitute any of the four replacements for one of their on-field players at any time during the game. The replaced player will not, however, be permitted to continue playing in the game—not even as a substitute outfield.
Each team will name four substitutes in addition to their starting eleven during the toss time, and one of those four will play during the match. Up to the completion of the 14th over of any inning, the player can replace any starting XI member while still being allowed to bat and bowl his full authorised number of overs.
DRS Rule in IPL 2023
In IPL 2023, there will be two DRS for each inning, and players will be able to review wides and no-balls.
Jemimah Rodrigues, a batter for Delhi Capitals, chose the no-ball review during the game against Royal Challengers Bangalore, which put it in the public eye. The incident occurred in the penultimate over of the first innings when Rodrigues called for a DRS against Megan Schutt of the RCB after she bowled her a full-toss on the third delivery and the batter hit a boundary to backward square leg. She used the unique DRS that BCCI implemented in the Women’s Premier League because she believed it was above the waist, which will also be used in the Indian Premier League 2023 (IPL).
Other Rules in IPL 2023
Upon a catch dismissal, the following batsman will take the strike whether the batsmen have crossed or not, unless it’s the final ball of the over.
The BCCI will try to reschedule the game for later in the IPL 2023 if any side is unable to find their starting lineup owing to COVID-19.
In the playoffs or the final game, the club that finished higher in the league will be crowned the winner if the Super Over or any future Super Overs cannot be completed for any reason.
