India’s updated squad for 2nd and 3rd Tests vs New Zealand

Washington Sundar, who smashed a century for Tamil Nadu in the ongoing Ranji Trophy match against Delhi, has been added to India’s squad for the second and third tests versus New Zealand.

BCCI has made the decision of adding Sundar to India’s squad as 16th member without making any changes in the previously announced team.

India faced a shaky start in the 3-match test series against New Zealand after the visitors defeated the Rohit Sharma-led Indian team by eight wickets on Sunday.

Batting first, India were bundled out for only 46. The kiwis, in reply, posted 402 to grab a whopping 356-run lead.

Impressive knocks from Virat Kohli (70), Sarfaraz Khan (150) and Rishabh Pant (99) provided the hosts some hopes of a fightback, but due to less support from lower-middle and tailanders, team India, who at one stage were 408 for 3. bowled out for 462 in their second innings.

New Zealand were only required to chase 107 runs, which they chased down with ease and won their first game after 36 long years in India.

Sundar, who batted at number 3 in the Ranji Trophy match, played a knock of 152 and did a 232-run partnership for the second wicket to set the platform for a big total for his side.

He was part of India’s limited overs team in last three series, but not in test format. Sundar, was however, added to India’s squad as a replacement for injured Ravindra Jadeja during the home series against England early this year.

With Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin already part of the team as specialist all-rounders, Sundar may replace Kuldeep Yadav based on long-dedicated batting line-up formula.
