India’s T20 squad for England series

Speedster Mohammed Shami has finally made it to India’s squad after a long injury break that lasts for nearly 14 months. So Let’s take a look at India’s T20 squad for England series. 

Shami, who was about to make a comeback but missed it in recently concluded Border-Gavaskar Trophy, has been included in India’s squad for the T20I series against England.

However, he already made a domestic comeback in November 2024 and played nine games for Bengal in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, taking 11 wickets, and three Vijay Hazare Trophy games where he picked five wickets.  

Shami’s comeback: What it means for Team India?

Shami is India’s one of the most elite fast bowlers in the recent times and he has delivered when needed. His presence in the playing 11 will definitely strengthen India’s bowling line-up.

As Jasprit Bumrah is also not part of the T20I squad and may miss the ODIs and some Champions Trophy games, the T20I series will provide Shami with a good opportunity to hone his skills before the mega event and lead the fast-bowling attack.  

Apart from Shami, Arshdeep Singh and Harshit Rana were added as fast bowlers, while Hardik Pandya and Nitish Kumar Reddy also been included as all-rounders, who can bowl medium pace. Let’s a look at India’s T20I squad.  

India’s T20 squad for England series  

Batters: Suryakumar Yadav (c), Tilak Varma, Abhishek Sharma, Rinku Singh 

Wicketkeeper: Sanju Samson, Dhruv Jurel 

All-rounders: Hardik Pandya, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Axar Patel (vice-capt), Washington Sundar 

Bowlers: Mohammed Shami, Arshdeep Singh, Harshit Rana, Ravi Bishnoi, Varun Chakravarthy 

The team led by Suryakumar Yadav will aim to continue their winning streak. India have not lost a single series since Suryakumar has been appointed as India’s regular T20I captain in July 2024.  

India won T20I series against Sri Lanka 2-0, Bangladesh 3-0, and also defeated South Africa in South Africa 3-1 in their most recent shortest format matches.  

The series against England will start on January 22, which last for five matches, with the first clash taking place at Kolkata’s iconic Eden Gardens.
