India’s dominance in ICC Rankings

India’s 2023 ODI World Cup journey so far is nothing short of extraordinary. They have played 8 games till date and won 8 of them comfortably.

The reason behind that is quite simple that all of the departments, whether batting, bowling and fielding, are all delivering at their best level.

The updated ICC Rankings also displayed team India and their players dominance in the World rankings, and today we will look where India and Indian player stands at the ICC Rankings.

India’s dominance in ICC Rankings

In September 2023, India became the second team in the history of cricket to attain the number 1 spot in all the three formats and are still maintaining it.

With 265 points in T20Is, the Rohit Sharma-led side is way ahead of the second-best England (259), same is the case in ODIs as with 121 points, the men in blue are 7 points ahead of the next team Australia (114), while in test India challenging the current World Test Champions, Australia.

If we talk about player rankings, then Shubman Gill, the leading run-scorer in one-dayers this year so far, overtook Babar Azam to be crowned as the no.1 ODI batter in ICC Rankings.

Playing with an average nearing 63, Gill has already smashed 5 centuries in 26 innings in 2023, and with a tag of new no.1 ODI batter, he also became the second fastest Indian to reach that spot (41 innings) after Mahendra Singh Dhoni (38).

Mohammed Siraj reclaimed the top spot in ODI bowler rankings. Siraj is 15 points ahead of the second-ranked bowler Keshav Maharaj.

Suryakumar Yadav, who has struck 433 runs with a strike-rate over 150 in T20Is this year, is the top-ranked player in the shorter format of the game.

Rohit Sharma is the best Indian batter at tenth place in test cricket. While Ravichandran Ashwin is topping the list of the highest ranked bowler in test cricket. And Ravindra Jadeja is the no.1 all-rounder in ICC Test all-rounders rankings. Jadeja is also third in the bowler rankings in the longest format.
