Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, who have been absent from the Indian T20 team in recent games, are once again not included in the squad for the forthcoming series against the West Indies.
Instead, Hardik Pandya will be in charge of the 15-player team, with a major emphasis on developing fresh talent. Sharma and Kohli have missed the last three T20 series, including the current one against the West Indies, thus it seems that their absence is not just related to rest.
The IPL player Rinku Singh, famed for his finishing prowess for KKR, was left off the 15-man roster. Rinku Singh and Jitesh Sharma from Vidarbha could nevertheless be a part of the squad for the T20I series against Ireland, which comes just after the West Indies series.
The only member of the squad over the age of 30 is Suryakumar Yadav, the top-ranked batsman in the world and vice-captain of the team. Tilak Varma, a potential left-handed hitter from Hyderabad and Mumbai Indians, is one significant addition to the group.
With an outstanding strike rate of above 142 in 47 games in the IPL and Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, Varma has demonstrated his middle-order ability and finishing abilities.
Yashasvi Jaiswal, who will shortly make his Test debut, has also secured a position in the T20 team as a result of his outstanding IPL achievements. Ajit Agarkar’s selection committee had no big shocks during its initial meeting.
Both Avesh Khan and Ravi Bishnoi have returned to the world stage. This season, Bishnoi, who most recently represented India in the Asia Cup, will play first-class cricket for Gujarat. Three wrist spinners, including Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal, are also on the team.
Ravindra Jadeja, who has been rested, has been chosen over Axar Patel, who has been in excellent form. In the absence of Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, and Mohammed Siraj, Avesh Khan and Umran Malik will lead the attack in terms of pace.
The Indian T20 team features a mix of seasoned veterans and up-and-coming stars, giving the younger players a chance to demonstrate their talent on a global stage. As the Indian squad aims to improve its T20 setup, the series against the West Indies promises to be a thrilling affair.
