India Squad Update for ENG Series and Champions Trophy

The squad for the upcoming series against England and the Champions Trophy will be announced by Team India at the earliest, as ICC has set a deadline of Jan 12 for all the teams that are going to take part in the Champions Trophy to unveil their squads. Rumoured Squad Changes

Jasprit Bumrah who is currently dealing with a back injury, and Mohammed Siraj could be rested for the upcoming T20Is. Both fast bowlers participated in all five BGT Tests in Australia, which means Arshdeep Singh will likely lead the pace attack. With Mayank Yadav still not fully fit, Avesh Khan and Harshit Rana are potential alternatives.

Spin responsibilities could be shared among Varun Chakravarthy, Ravi Bishnoi, and Axar Patel. Hardik Pandya will be the first-choice all-rounder, and Shivam Dube, who missed the South Africa T20Is due to injury, can make a return. Nitish Kumar Reddy, who made a mark in the Bangladesh T20Is and had a good showing during the Australia tour, can also be added to the squad.

Riyan Parag’s fitness is uncertain, and as he has not played any domestic cricket this year, hence he cannot be considered. Sanju Samson, who opened the batting in South Africa and scored two centuries, could continue as the primary wicketkeeper, with Rishabh Pant unlikely to be risked. The opening combination will remain unchanged, with Abhishek Sharma continuing alongside Jaiswal and Shubman Gill. Tilak Varma, following his impressive T20I form, is expected to bat at No.3.

Why is there a Delay in the Squad Announcement?

ICC has given a deadline of Jan 12 for all the participating team squads to be unveiled, however, the delay in the announcement might have happened because of the analysis of the squad from the BGT series and ongoing injuries.
