India squad for Sri Lanka Tour 2024: The BCCI has announced the much-awaited India’s white-ball squads for the Sri Lanka tour on Thursday.
Stalwarts Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are back in the one-day set up after eight months. While Shreyas Iyer, who also missed some action, made the cut for the ODI series. Jasprit Bumrah is the only senior to receive a workload break.
The selectors also showed faith in Suryakumar Yadav to lead the Indian team in the T-20 series, and the decision is seen as the preparation for the T20 World Cup 2026.
Earlier, Hardik Pandya, who was playing as India’s designated vice-captain following the 2022 World Cup debacle, who also led the side in various occasions in the absence of regular skipper Rohit Sharma, was viewed as Rohit’s successor in the shortest format after the World Cup winning captain bid adieu to the format.
But, as per media reports, Pandya’s fitness and workload commitments, have become the villain for his non-appointment as India’s full-time captain in the T20 format.
Rishabh Pant also made a comeback in the ODI set-up after 19 months after facing a horrifying car clash in December 2022. Kl Rahul also returned to the ODI squad.
The T20I series between India vs Sri Lanka will start from July 27 and concludes on July 30. Both teams will then face off in a three-match ODI series from August 2 to August 7.
