IND vs BAN 1st Test Day 1 Highlights for Bangladesh tour of India, 2024

IND vs BAN 1st Test Day 1 Highlights, Experienced all-rounders stood tall at the challenging Chennai wicket to brought India back into the game after the early setbacks.  

Both Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin displayed their skills and did a –run partnership to put India in driver’s seat at Stumps on day 1.

Invited to bat first, India managed to score 339 for 6 on the first day of the opening test. Bangladesh’s Hasan Mahmud impressed everyone with a 4-wicket haul.  

Top-order struggle

Team India was in troublesome situation after losing their top 3 wickets on just 34 runs. Those were extremely big dismissals, as it includes India skipper Rohit Sharma (6), Shubman Gill (0), and Virat Kohli (6).  

Rishabh Pant, who made a comeback in test cricket after a 19-month long gap due to his car accident, started on a flying note and gave some hope before losing his wicket for 39.  

Yashasvi Jaiswal was the only top-order batter to score fifty.  

Jadeja-Ashwin Masterclass

With 144 for 6, team India was seeking to touch 200-run mark. But India’s all-rounders Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin turned the tables completely with their unbeaten 195-run stand.  

Ravichandran Ashwin (102*) completed his sixth test hundred in the process. While Ravindra Jadeja also remained not out at 86. Both will start the second day for India with an aim to cross 400-run mark at least 

Hasan Mahmud’s early success

Hasan Mahmud, who played a big role in helping Bangladesh beating Pakistan in Pakistan for the first time in test series recently, started his India tour on a solid note.  

Mahmud with his swingers got the wicket of Indian skipper Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant. He provided his side first four breakthroughs and a confidence to fight with the mighty team India.

However, due to lack of support from other bowlers, his early success did not put Bangladesh on top at stumps on day 1.
