The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced the addition of new names to its Cricket Hall of Fame. India’s renowned opener Virender Sehwag, former Indian Women Test skipper Diana Edulji, and Sri Lanka’s iconic talent Aravinda de Silva are among the new names named by the ICC.
With these three new members, the ICC Hall of Fame will now have 112 players. In terms of India, eight Indian cricketers presently possess the prestigious award for their outstanding achievements. Sunil Gavaskar, Bishan Singh Bedi, Kapil Dev, Anil Kumble, Rahul Dravid, Sachin Tendulkar, Vinoo Mankad, Diana Edulji, and Virendra Sehwag are among them.
Returning to the ICC’s three new additions, it is stated that Sehwag had energy and was a destructive opener of the modern era, which is still difficult to duplicate. He is the first Indian to score a triple century, and he actually has two.
Sehwag amassed 23 Test hundreds during his extraordinary career, ranking him seventh among Indian men’s players. His career-high 319 against South Africa in Chennai in 2008 was the best of any Indian player in history. During the 2011 World Cup, he contributed to India’s second World Cup victory by ranking ninth among all players with 380 runs. He played 104 tests, 251 ODIs, and 19 T20s during his career.
As per ICC, Sehwag has played:

- 251 ODIs: 8,273 runs at an average of 35.05, 96 wickets
- 19 T20Is: 394 runs at an average of 21.88
Sehwag Quoted : “I would like to thank the ICC and the jury for inducting me with this honour. I feel extremely grateful for having spent a great part of my life doing what I loved most, ‘hitting the cricket ball’.”
“This achievement is a tribute to the dedication, sacrifice, and love that have shaped my cricketing journey,” said de Silva.
“My family, my parents, my sister, my wife and children are my anchor, and deserve the deepest thanks for their unwavering support and sacrifice, which have propelled me towards success.”
