Klaasen’s ₹23 Crore Retention Under Review
Heinrich Klaasen was retained by SRH for a massive ₹23 crore, making him one of the highest-paid players in the team—more than even captain Pat Cummins, who was retained for ₹18 crore. However, reports suggest that SRH is reconsidering this decision after Klaasen’s inconsistent 2025 IPL season.
Despite a memorable 105 off 39 balls against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Klaasen struggled to maintain form in other matches, leaving SRH disappointed with his overall performance.
Multiple Franchises Interested in Klaasen
According to reports, several IPL franchises are closely monitoring Klaasen’s situation and are ready to include him in their auction wishlists if SRH decides to release him. His experience and ability to play spin well make him a valuable target for many teams looking to bolster their middle order.
SRH’s Strategy: Free Up Funds for Bowling Reinforcement
Industry sources suggest SRH’s potential decision to release Klaasen is strategic. Letting go of a ₹23 crore player would give the franchise more flexibility to rebuild the squad and strengthen their bowling and spin departments.
“They can even try to buy Klaasen back for around ₹15 crore and use the remaining funds for effective shopping,” a source quoted by TOI stated.
Underperforming Signings Add to SRH’s Concerns
SRH’s other major signings, including Mohammed Shami (₹10 crore) and Harshal Patel (₹8 crore), failed to meet expectations.
Shami’s season was marred by injuries, while Patel, despite picking up 16 wickets, was expensive with an economy rate nearing 10.
The team’s bowling struggles played a major role in SRH’s sixth-place finish in the 2025 IPL season, a sharp fall from their runners-up campaign in 2024.
Spin Department to Get Major Overhaul
SRH management is also focusing on improving their spin attack. As per reports, they were “not pleased” with Rahul Chahar, who played only one match due to poor form in intra-squad games.
The team had to rotate between Zeeshan Ansari and Harsh Dubey, but neither could make a significant impact, prompting SRH to look for reliable spinners in the upcoming auction.
Klaasen Remains Central to SRH’s Pre-Auction Plans
Despite the uncertainties, Klaasen remains the focal point of SRH’s pre-auction discussions. His release or retention could determine the franchise’s overall auction strategy.
With the retention deadline approaching, multiple teams are reportedly keeping funds aside to bid for the hard-hitting right-hander if he enters the auction pool.
