Glenn Maxwell Not to Register for IPL 2026 Auction

Glenn Maxwell’s IPL Future in Doubt After PBKS Release

A massive shock has hit the IPL fraternity as explosive Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell finds himself without a team ahead of IPL 2026. Punjab Kings (PBKS) have released Maxwell, raising further questions about whether he will even feature in the upcoming season. So let’s Why Glenn Maxwell Not to Register for IPL 2026 Auction.

Maxwell was released alongside Josh Inglis, Aaron Hardie, Kuldeep Sen, and Pravin Dubey. However, Maxwell’s exit has created the biggest buzz following his disappointing IPL 2025 campaign.

PBKS Release Maxwell After Horrific IPL 2025 Season

In IPL 2025, Maxwell had a nightmarish run, scoring just 48 runs in six innings at a poor average of 8.00, while picking up four wickets at an economy of 8.46. His underwhelming performances ultimately led to PBKS letting him go.

Aakash Chopra: “Maxwell Might Not Even Enter The Auction”

Cricket expert Aakash Chopra believes Maxwell may skip the IPL 2026 auction altogether. He also hinted that the Australian star may have reached the end of his IPL career.

Chopra said:

“Is it the end of an era? He has earned ₹101 crore from the IPL. He might put his name, or he might not even put his name. It’s going to be very interesting.”

He added that while some teams may still take interest, it wouldn’t be surprising if he goes unsold.

PBKS’ Surprising Move to Release Josh Inglis

Aakash Chopra also questioned PBKS’s decision to release wicketkeeper-batter Josh Inglis, but head coach Ricky Ponting confirmed that Inglis would miss the entire season, prompting the move.

With Xavier Bartlett, Lockie Ferguson, and Marco Jansen already in the squad, PBKS now need a middle-order batter, a backup pacer, and an Indian backup spinner.

Punjab Kings’ Auction Strategy for IPL 2026

PBKS will enter the IPL 2026 auction with ₹11.50 crore in their purse.
They have 21 players, meaning they can sign four more, including only two overseas picks.

The team is expected to target:

  • A stable middle-order batter (names like Cooper Connolly floated)
  • A backup fast bowler
  • An Indian spinner for depth

Is This the End of Glenn Maxwell’s IPL Journey?

With form dipping, PBKS releasing him, and experts raising doubts, Glenn Maxwell’s IPL future looks uncertain. Whether he enters the auction or not will likely be one of the biggest talking points leading up to IPL 2026.
