Gautam Gambhir as India Coach: In an interesting turn of events, the BCCI Secretary Mr. Jay Shah announced on Tuesday 9th July evening that former World Cup-winning player Gautham Gambhir is the new head coach of the Senior Indian Men’s cricket team. Gautham Gambhir who played for India in 2003 had a wonderful international career for 13 years where he won multiple ICC trophies.

This decision comes majorly after Rahul David announced his exit as the head coach after winning the 2024 T20 World Cup. BCCI who were looking for a coach keeping long-term projects in mind, were the new coach will be expected to win more ICC trophies starting with the Champions Trophy in 2025.

Gautham Gambhir who was a great player with the bat for India, where used to open the innings. He scored over 10000 runs in his career and even won the 2007 T20 WC and 2011 ODI WC. He even guided KKR to IPL Champions twice as a player and once as a mentor. His recent success with KKR as a mentor has propelled the BCCI to make him the new Head of the Indian cricket team.

Future Plans of New Head Coach

Currently engaged in a five-match Twenty20 International (T20I) series in Zimbabwe, the Indian team’s next assignment is a series against Sri Lanka, where new head coach Gautham Gambhir will make his debut. However, before that can happen, the series board must get to work on the employment of more coaches.

Additionally, it has been stated that the board intends to give Gambhir total control over the choice of selected support personnel. Since Gambhir was a superb opening batsman in his playing career, it’s possible that no batting coach would be appointed.

Gautham Gambhir’s Current Salary as New Head Coach of Indian Cricket Team

Gautam Gambhir is expected to earn significantly more than his IPL mentor salary of Rs. 25 crore. Rahul Dravid, who recently concluded his coaching tenure, reportedly earned Rs. 12 crore annually. Gambhir’s potential earnings reflect the greater responsibility and demands of coaching the national team compared to his IPL role.

While the exact figure remains undisclosed due to sensitivity issues, reports suggest it could be on par with his IPL earnings. Even earlier there was a delay in official confirmation from BCCI where it was certain that the amount is higher and that is why negotiation took time.
