Sent in to bat, San Francisco Unicorns unleashed chaos with the bat. Finn Allen anchored the innings with a superb 151 off 51 balls, laced with 5 fours and 19 sixes at a strike rate of 296.08. He completed his century in only 34 ballls, which is the second fastest ton in franchise league cricket.
Tim Seifert’s 28 off just 10 and Sanjay Krishnamurthi’s 36 off 20 added vital momentum in the middle. Despite a couple of breakthroughs from Jack Edwards (2/39), the Freedom bowlers were largely ineffective.
Hassan Khan provided the finishing fireworks with an unbeaten 38 from 18 deliveries, taking Unicorns to a mammoth 269/5 in 20 overs, the highest team total in MLC history.
Washington Freedom had no answers to the scoreboard pressure or the Unicorns’ pace attack. Mitchell Owen (39 off 20) tried to counter-attack, but once Rachin Ravindra (42 off 17) fell in the 6th over, the collapse was inevitable.
Haris Rauf (3/30) struck twice in quick succession, including the key wicket of Glenn Maxwell. Hassan Khan (3/25) then ran through the lower middle order, while Carmi le Roux (2/35) kept it tight at the other end. Plunkett also struck with the new ball as the Freedom were bundled out for 146 in just 13.1 overs.
The game highlighted the Unicorns’ depth and firepower. Every department clicked, from Seifert’s century and Hassan’s all-round show to Rauf’s pace burst.
Jack Edwards picked up 2 wickets for Freedom, but their bowlers went for over 13 an over, a major concern moving forward.
