Rishabh Pant Was Largely Seen As Dhoni’s Replacement:
Former Indian Captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni has been away from cricket after India endured a defeat against New Zealand in the semifinal in the World Cup campaign last year. This year, Chennai Super Kings captain has set to return to the Indian Premier League. But due to the outbreak of the Coronavirus pandemic, the tournament was postponed indefinitely.
The problem of whether Dhoni will be able to play in the T20I World Cup later this year remains unclear. The concerns at this point remain as to which player will play in the shortest format of the wicketkeeper.
Although Rishabh Pant was seen mainly as a substitute for Dhoni, this year, India tried to hold KL Rahul in the Australian series and the New Zealand series. Rahul had an important role, and now the old Indian cricketer Deep Dasgupta says India was to stay with the Karnataka Cricketer in T20Is as a wicketkeeper.
He Is A Proper Wicketkeeper- Deep Dasgupta:
Dasgupta said in an interview with the media: “In T20s, I certainly think KL Rahul will stay with India. He knows how to keep and bat as well. He’s an excellent wicketkeeper that his staying is sounding technically competent.
The former cricketer-turned commentator also said that India ought to continue investing in Risabh Pant because it possesses enormous potential. “Long-term investment needs to stay Rishabh Pant. You must give him deep affection and support to play domestic cricket. You must be imaginative in guiding and mentoring him. It would be a disgrace if he does not do what he should, “he said.
Speaking about Rahul, he said, “I understand why the team wants him to bat in that role as if someone like Rahul batting at the number 5 in ODI cricket. He’s a world-class batsman. He got all his gears to play in 1-6 with the right kind of nature. He looks effortless in the T20s. That’s the type of game he has got. When you look at the batting order of the Indian squad, it seems fine to me.
