Credit To Dhoni That He Continued With Uthappa At No.3: Gambhir

In the 1st Qualifier versus the Delhi Capitals (DC), Robin Uthappa batted well for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK). The right-handed hitter smashed 63 off 44 to ensure MS Dhoni’s team overcome the opponents with four wickets to play.

And so now, Gautam Gambhir has spoken on Uthappa’s batting performance against the DC. The former Indian player believes MS Dhoni deserves credit for placing Robin Uthappa at No. 3 in the batting order.

While admitting that Dhoni could have been compelled to select Suresh Raina in the match, the 39-year-old believes that when a skipper continues with a guy with talent like Robin Uthappa, he would perform.

You have to give credit to MS Dhoni that he continued with Robin Uthappa. He could have easily been tempted to go for Suresh Raina. When you persist with a player, he will eventually come good if he has the ability, and Robin has the ability,” said Gambhir.

Probably Robin Uthappa likes batting at the Top 3 as he did in the past for KKR: Gambhir

Gautam Gambhir went on to say that Robin Uthappa would like to knock in the top three and has demonstrated his abilities earlier. Stressing the importance of this, Gambhir continued by noting that MS Dhoni and the CSK were rewarded for putting in Uthappa at No.3.

He (Robin) has shown it in the past. And, probably he likes batting at the Top 3, and before this, he actually has not batted at No.3, he has batted at No.4, so probably this is where he likes it, and recognizing and sending him at No.3 was equally important. MS has used Moeen Ali at No.3, and today he used Robin Uthappa, and he has got the fruits,” concluded Gautam Gambhir.

Following their success against the DC, the CSK have reached the IPL 2021 finals, which will be held at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on October 15, 2021.
