BAN vs SA 1st Test Day 1 Highlights for South Africa tour of Bangladesh 2024

Bangladesh bounced back on the first of the eventful opening test of the 2-match series being played at Shree Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka. So let’s take a look at BAN vs SA 1st Test Day 1 Highlights.  

Opting to bat, the Bangla Tigers, who were hoping to start their home series on a positive note, faced a shaky start, and were bundled out for just 106.  

Opening batter Mahmudul Hasan Joy scored the most runs for the side with 30. While only three others managed to touch double digit with best among them scored 16.

Kagiso Rabada, Wiaan Mulder, and Keshav Maharaj bagged 3 wickets each for the visitors to resstict the hosts to a low total.  

South Africa, in reply, also had a weak start with 140 on board at the loss of six wickets at stumps on day 1. However, they are still ahead in the game with 34 runs lead and four wickets in hand.  

There are plenty of time left in the test, and Kyle Verreynne (18*), and Wiaan Mulder (17*), who both will start for South Africa on day 2, will look to convert their ongoing 32-run partnership to a big one.  

It was not an ideal start for the Bangladesh in the test with the bat, but Taijul Islam’s fifer brought them back in the game; however, there is still the long way to go for the complete comeback.  

Kagiso Rabada becomes fastest bowler to complete 300 test wickets

Seasoned bowler Kagiso Rabada completed his 300 test wickets during his spell of 11-4-26-3 in the first innings of the first test against Bangladesh and became the fastest ever to achieve the feat in terms of balls. He bowled 11,817 to claim 300 wickets in test cricket, which is the fastest.

Pakistan’s speedster Waqar Younis is second on the list with 12,602 balls, followed by Dale Steyn at third, Allan Donald at fourth and Malcom Marshall at five with 13,728 deliveries.

Apart from that, Rabada also became the sixth South African bowler to secure 300 test wickets after Dale Steyn (439), Shaun Pollock (421), Makhaya Ntini (390), Allan Doland (330), and Morne Morkel with 309 scalps.
