Asia Cup 2025 Returns in September: India-Pakistan Could Clash Three Times

Asia Cup 2025 Updates: Three Potential Clashes, One Explosive Rivalry

The Asia Cup 2025, to be officially hosted by India, is set to take place from September 5 to 21, most probably in the UAE on a neutral venue agreement. The Asia Cup will consist of six teams: India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, and the UAE. So let’s look at the Asia Cup 2025 Updates.

The structure consists of two groups of three teams each, with the winner of each group qualifying for a Super Four stage, and then for the final between the top two Super Four sides. This format makes it possible for India and Pakistan to meet a total of three times, first in the group stage, secondly in the top four  and possibly a third time in the final itself on 21 September.

Even though India is the official host, the matches will be played in the UAE, because of political tensions and absence of travel arrangements between India and Pakistan. It is part of a hybrid hosting model embraced by the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), as was the issue in earlier arrangements such as the 2023 edition and the ICC Champions Trophy re-arrangements.

The ACC is finalizing the tournament’s schedule in detail and working with participating countries to obtain government clearances. A smooth hosting of the tournament is viewed as an important chance to resuscitate cricketing diplomacy between India and Pakistan, particularly in the run-up to the Women’s ODI World Cup later this year to be co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka.

Promotion of the tournament has already kicked off, with Sony having released teaser posters to generate buzz. The Asia Cup has never failed to garner humongous eyeballs, and with the possibility of three high-octane India-Pakistan encounters, the 2025 edition promises to be special.

Future Hosts of Asia Cup

Looking ahead, the ACC has also concluded hosts for future editions: Bangladesh (2027, ODI format), Pakistan (2029, T20), and Sri Lanka (2031, ODI), reflecting a longer-term vision for continental cricket development.
