Kohli’s Childhood Coach Responds To Controversy On Team India’s Captaincy

The unsatisfying departure of Virat Kohli as India’s ODI skipper has been a hot topic in the cricket world recently. The 33-year-old had voiced his intention to continue leading in the other 2 versions after stepping down as T20I captain after the T20 WC 2021 last year. As a result, when the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced Rohit Sharma as the new ODI captain last week, the world got shocked.

According to BCCI president Sourav Ganguly, who explained the decision, Kohli was asked not to step down as T20I captain. The national selectors handed Rohit the responsibility because he refused to do so, and they needed a regular captain in white-ball cricket. Kohli, on the other hand, denied Ganguly’s claim, claiming that he was aware of the decision soon before the December 8 Test selection conference.

I don’t know why such a communication gap was there: Kohli’s childhood coach, Rajkumar Sharma

The cricket world has been split between Kohli’s and Ganguly’s conflicting views. Kohli’s childhood coach, Rajkumar Sharma, expressed disbelief at the situation.“This is definitely shocking and this is news to me as well that Virat Kohli said something like this in the press conference. What comment should I give, about why it has happened and why such a thing should not have happened”.

Rajkumar remained strict on whether the BCCI’s verdict was appropriate or not. “I would not like to comment too much on this. I will only want to say that they are the authority and whatever decision they have taken, they would have taken it thoughtfully and my statement about this does not hold any significance, whether they have done right or wrong,” he added.

In response to Kohli and Ganguly’s contradictory remarks, “This is something unusual I have heard, I didn’t see Virat’s press conference as well. This communication gap should not have happened. According to me, there should be transparency between them and I don’t know why this has happened or why such a communication gap was there.”
