Kent beat Lancashire by 21 runs to win Royal London Cup

Kent defeated Lancashire by 21 runs to win the Royal London Cup at Trent Bridge.

Kent Vs Lancashire match highlights

Opting to bat, Kent were seen clueless as in the first over of the innings they lost the big wicket if Ben Compton on duck.

Joe Denly, who hit 78 off 69 deliveries, provided support to opening batter Joey Evison, who scored 97 off 111 tosses. Both added 133 runs for the third wicket.

The ageless Darren Stevens added 31 runs to the total with a clever unbeaten effort as Kent recorded 306 for 6 in 50 overs.

Liam Hurt and Danny Lamb picked up each 2-2 crucial wickets, but Tom Bailey two for 46 was Lancashire’s best bowler.

Good efforts by skipper Keaton Jennings and Steven Croft went in vain as due to lack of support from the other end, they failed to drive their side home.

Both played matching knocks of 72, but that wasn’t enough to hand them a victory during the night of final as Grant Stewart and Nathan Gilchrist each bagged three wickets, and Joey Evison finished off an impressive all-around performance by taking two and they bundled Lancashire out for 285 runs.

Joey Evison was awarded with the honour of man of the match for his impressive all-round performance with both bat and ball. He played a crucial role in building a base to set a set a big total on board with a spectacular 97, and later grabbed 2 wickets.

“It is always nice to play at Trent Bridge, I had such a good time here, and to play in a Final at Trent Bridge is really special. It has been such a good day” said Evison after the game.

“It was disappointing not to get the hundred. I think what cost my wicket was lack of concentration really after there was a review the ball before I got out, although it was a pretty good ball. Slower balls on that wicket are quite tough.“But if you had suggested to me at the start of the day that I was going to get 97, take two wickets and a catch, I would have bitten your hand off. I couldn’t ask for more” he added.
