Jonathan Trott appointed as Afghanistan’s new head coach

New Head Coach Of Afghanistan

Former English batter Jonathan Trott has been appointed as the new head coach of Afghanistan’s men’s cricket team.

He will assume the role of head coach during the Afghanistan’s August tour of Ireland

From 2009 to 2015, Jonathan Trott featured in 52 test matches for England, scoring 3835 runs at an average of 44.08 with nine hundreds, 19 half-centuries, and a personal best of 226.

He has also played 68 One Day Internationals (ODIs) for England throughout that time, amassing 2838 runs at 51.25, including 4 hundreds and 22 half-centuries.

Who was the coach of Afghanistan cricket team before Jonathan Trott?

Trott has taken over from Graham Thorpe in the role after the latter’s serious illness in May made room for Trott’s hiring.

Trott has experience working with England’s senior batting team. He did so in South Africa, during the English Test Summer of 2020, and on England’s red/white ball tour of India the previous year. As a batting coach and mentor, he has also worked with the England Lions and the U-19s. He will also serve as Scotland’s batting consultant during the 2021 World Twenty20.

“I’m honoured and excited to have the opportunity to take one of international cricket’s most exciting teams through what is a huge year for their development as a team,” he said in an official statement.

He also thinks that Afghanistan has produced players with a wealth of potential who can play the game with unmatched passion and in their own unique way.

“I can’t wait to get to work with a group of players who are clearly capable of generating results in a style that will make the people of Afghanistan proud,” Trott added on Friday.

Afghanistan Cricket Team will fly to Ireland early in August where the team will feature in 5 T20Is starting August 9.

The first major assignment in front of Trott is to prepare the Afghanistan side for the upcoming Asia Cup 2022, which is slated to be held from August 27, and keep the side ready for the even bigger competition, ICC T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia, starting October 16.
