IPL Media Rights – Who can clinch nearly 100 crore worth bidding proposal?

After the end of the splendid season of the IPL 2022, now it is time to guess who will fetch the IPL media rights for the 2023-27 period.

Everyone knows the popularity of the Indian Premier League and that’s the reason every big corporate wants to take the IPL media rights.

Last time, it was Star India that managed to acquire the media rights at Rs 16,348 crore for the 2018-22 period. But now the stage is different, as the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India has set the base price for the five years media rights of IPL at Rs 32,890 crore.

And after the BCCI raised Rs 12,725 crore from adding the two new teams in 2021, its president Sourav Ganguly estimated that the board could fetch good numbers from the sale. While the trade pundits feel it can touch the 50,000 crore mark.

Notably, IPL media rights are the fourth highest after the National Football League (NFL), English Premier League (EPL), and Major League Baseball (MLB).

In the current cycle, Star India pays over Rs 54 crore per match to the BCCI. The base price for TV rights set by BCCI, is Rs 49 crore per match, while that for digital rights is Rs 33 crore per match.

But the big question is will a cost of nearly Rs 100 crore per match be good to invest by broadcasters?

However, many big companies showed their interest and are in the queue of acquiring the media rights.

From the likes of Amazon, Reliance Viacom Sports18. Zee Entertainment Enterprises, Sony Group Corp, Dream Sports Inc, Disney Star, Alphabet Inc, Apple, and Supersport, are all in the race to grab the opportunity to showcase the biggest cricket league in the world on their platform.

The IPL media rights e-auction will begin on June 12.
