IPL: 5 Records That May Never Be Broken

IPL has often seen unprecedented records. The quality of cricket is almost always outstanding. Players from across countries put up their best show during the showpiece event. All these factors result in some crazy records being sent. There have been many records that have been broken almost immediately. But there are 5 records in IPL which might never be broken.

StumpsandBails brings to you 5 Records in IPL that might never be broken:

#5 6/12 bowling figures by Alzarri Joseph

Alzarri Joseph made his IPL debut playing for the Mumbai Indians in 2019. He registered the best bowling figures on IPL debut. He single-handedly dismantled Sunrisers Hyderabad. Joseph picked up 6 wickets for 12 runs. These are by far the best figures recorded by a bowler in IPL. Sohail Tanvir was the previous record holder who had figures of 6-14. It will be quite difficult for anyone to break Joseph’s record.

#4 37 runs in one over

Chris Gayle was in terrific form in IPL 2011. He amassed 608 runs in 12 games. Gayle was particularly severe on Kochi Tuskers Kerala in a league match. He plundered 44 runs off 18 balls against them. In an over bowled by Prasanth Parameshwaran, Gayle smashed 37 runs off a single over. He scored 3 fours and 4 sixes as the bowler had bowled one no-ball as well. It’s not every day that a batsman scores 36 runs in an over forget hitting 37.

#3 Kohli’s 4 centuries in a single season | 973 runs

Virat Kohli had a brilliant IPL 2016. He became the first player to score 4 centuries in a single season. Players often struggle to score one century in an entire season and here was Kohli scoring 4 centuries. Not only Kohli set a century benchmark but also breached the 900-runs mark in IPL 2016. Kohli became the first batsman to score 900 runs in a single season. This record will take some doing to be broken or matched.

#2 Chris Gayle’s 175*

Chris Gayle went berserk against the Pune Warriors India in IPL 2013. He bought up the highest ever T20I score by a batsman. Gayle notched up 175* runs in just 66 balls. He broke several records in that process. Gayle bought up the fastest IPL century in 30 balls. It will take a gargantuan effort to eclipse this record.

#1 ABD-Kohli 229 runs partnership

The Royal Challengers Bangalore had one of their best seasons in IPL 2016. They went into beast mode against Gujarat Lions in a league match. RCB batting first found themselves at 19-1. Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers then put on a spectacular show. They stitched together a batting partnership of 229 runs. It will be difficult to match or better this batting record.
