IPL 2023: Cameron Green can trigger the bidding war in the upcoming mini-auction

IPL 2023:  Cameron Green can be seen on the shopping list of the franchise owners this time.

After the fantastic performance seen in cricket in the recently concluded ICC T20 World Cup. The franchises can bid big for young Talent in the coming auction.

The upcoming auction of Indian Premier League 2023 is all set to take place on December 23 in Kochi. Ahead of the bidding event, 991 players have registered themselves to go under the hammer. But, with a squad limit of 25 players, only a maximum of 87 cricketers can earn contracts from the franchises, of which 30 could be overseas players.

Like every auction, teams will focus on picking quality all-rounders as they are always in demand due to their role. All-rounders often go for big money at IPL auctions, and Australian sensation Cameron Green will be a hot property at the mini-auction.

Green’s bowling spell and subsequent achievements with the bat in India earlier this year were already outstanding. The IPL franchises will probably engage in a bidding war for the daring Australian all-rounder.

Green paid a base fee of INR 2 crore to reserve his name in the lucrative tournament’s mini-auction. Although Green’s availability has been called into question by recent statements made by Australian coach Andrew McDonald. But let’s look at three teams who could make a bid for Green in the mini-auction given that the all-rounder will be coming to play in the IPL.

IPL 2023: Teams that can bid for the Cricketers:

Lucknow Super Giants

The Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) will search for an all-rounder after dismissing Jason Holder from their roster, and Green may be a great option. Notably, Holder performed well for Lucknow with the ball but struggled to make an impact with the bat.

If Marcus Stoinis and Deepak Hooda bat in the top order, LSG has players like them. The KL Rahul-led team can then attempt to use Green as the finisher, a position he has excelled in both ODIs and Tests but hasn’t yet filled in T20s.

SunRisers Hyderabad

SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) has a sizable residual budget of INR 42.25 crore and must completely rebuild its team. Their captain Kane Williamson, finisher Nicholas Pooran, and all-arounder Romario Shepherd have all been released. Green will greatly improve the team’s balance because he can bat in the top order.

Before the T20 World Cup 2022, Green had scored 61 (30) and 52 (21) against India as an opener. All the teams, including SRH, which had the poorest strike rate in the powerplay in 2022 with 108.52, would notice his strike rate of 214.55 in the series.

Punjab Kings

Similar to the Sunrisers, the Punjab Kings (PBKS) released several players, including their captain Mayank Agarwal. Agarwal had a poor season with the bat and his leadership also drew criticism. The Kings have given Shikhar Dhawan the keys before the mini-auction.

Since PBKS released finisher Odean Smith, Green may probably take over as their preferred lower-order batsman given that their top, middle, and bottom orders are all taken care of by Dhawan, Jonny Bairstow, Bhanuka Rajapaksa, and Liam Livingstone. With their INR 32.2 crore budget, adding Green could change the game because PBKS will be able to use an additional batter.
