We look at 5 such MVPs between 10-12 crores in IPL 2023:

#5 Lockie Ferguson – 10.00 crores

He was the quickest bowler on display in the last IPL. Lockie Ferguson is one of the fastest bowlers in the game currently. He was invaluable for the Gujarat Titans last year. Ferguson was used primarily in the middle overs wherein he bowled hard lengths. He picked most of his wickets during the chase denting the opposition. Gujarat though had the luxury of Alzaari Joseph as well.

KKR’s tactical move to buy Lockie Ferguson:

The West Indian fast bowler started playing most of the games in the latter half of the season. Hence Gujarat decided to release Ferguson ahead of the 2023 mini auctions. KKR readily acquired him for his price tag of INR 10 crores. Eden Gardens, Kolkata is one of the fastest surfaces in the country hence KKR’s decision to onboard Ferguson makes all the more sense.

#4 Jasprit Bumrah – 12.00 crores

He has been part of all of Mumbai’s 5 IPL title wins. Jasprit Bumrah made his IPL debut in 2013. He remained Lasith Malinga’s understudy for as long as Malinga led Mumbai’s bowling. Bumrah soon became the leader of the attack bowling some exceptional spells. His performance in IPL 2020 remains a special standout.

Bumrah is one of those rare bowlers who is mighty effective across all phases of the game. His death bowling though remains an absolute mystery for the best in the business still.

#3 Liam Livingstone – 11.50 crores

He is one of the most exciting T20 cricketers in the world. He was part of the Rajasthan Royals in 2021 but couldn’t make much of an impact in the limited opportunities he got. The Punjab Kings though went all out in the mega auction in 2022 to acquire Liam Livingstone. They almost broke the bank shelling out INR 11.50 crores for Livingstone. He was their costliest purchase last season. Livingstone was unarguably PBKS’ biggest MVP last season.

#2 Wanindu Hasaranga – 10.75 crores

He is arguably among the top two spinners in world cricket at the moment in limited overs. Wanindu Hasaranga is a fierce competitor. He is someone who is always in the game. RCB was pretty keen on bringing Hasaranga on board in the mega auction. They didn’t mind shelling out INR 10.75 crores for the Lankan spinner. It was the highest amount paid to a spinner in the mega auction. Hasaranga finished second on the wicket-takers list in IPL 2022 thereby validating RCB’s faith.

#1 Jos Buttler – 10.00 crores

He is currently the best T20 opener in the world. Jos Buttler had a dream year in 2022. He equalled Virat Kohli’s record for 4 centuries in a season. Buttler went past David Warner’s record of 848 runs to finish second among the all-timers list. He powered the Rajasthan Royals almost singlehandedly to the finals.

Buttler later went on to lead England to the T20 World Cup triumph in Australia. He was signed for just INR 10 crores as RR’s second choice retention. It speaks volumes about the valuable acquisition that he is.
