IPL 2023: IPL Mini-Auction To Take Place Mid-December

The Indian Premier League (IPL) auction for the 2023 season is scheduled to take place in mid-December of this year. The most likely date is December 16. The location of the mini-auction is not decided yet.

Franchises who appear to have received the signal from the BCCI/IPL leadership during recent informal meetings have discussed the preliminary schedule. The league’s start dates are yet unknown. Although the home and away format is likely to opt. And we may see the league starting around the fourth week of March.

The wage purse for the auction will be INR 95 crore, 5 crore more from last year. It means each club would have reserves of at least INR 5 crore to start with. The purse can further swell if a franchise releases its players or trades them.

What to expect from IPL Auction 2023?

Since the IPL 2022 season, when the management of the Chennai Super Kings and Ravindra Jadeja allegedly fell out, rumors abound that the talented all-rounder will either move to a different franchise or be removed. According to recent rumors, CSK and Gujarat Titans could potentially exchange Jadeja and Shubman Gill. Both teams flatly rejected the trade-off.

However, a few other clubs have made trade demands for Jadeja, with the Delhi Capitals being one among them. But according to Cricbuzz, the CSK administration has no intention of selling the all-rounder, who is regarded as one of the greatest in the world.

Along with Jadeja, Rahul Tewatia and R Sai Kishore have reportedly drawn trade demands for Gujarat Titans, but the IPL winners have turned down the offers. The transfer/trade window will close one week prior to the auction and reopen the following day.

Management Disclosure

Meanwhile, Sourav Ganguly has written to the state associations stating the IPL 2023 arrangements. He said it will be restored to the conventional home and away arrangement. He even spoke about women’s IPL.

Previous Venues

The previous three IPLs have been restricted to fewer centres. The 2022 edition was in Mumbai and Pune. In 2021, it was in a few venues in India initially and afterward in the UAE. The 2020 IPL was fully conducted in UAE.
