On Monday – (April 18), Match 30 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) featured a high-scoring drama between Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). The Royals won by barely 7 runs after scoring 427 runs in 39.4 overs in a match that kept changing sides with each over. Yuzvendra Chahal changed the course of the game with a spectacular hat-trick in the 17th over, all while finishing with a five-wicket haul. With 40 runs required in 4 overs and 6 wickets in hand as he entered into the action in the 17th over, till then the match appeared to be firmly in KKR’s control. Shreyas Iyer, their captain, was hitting in the 80s, and Venkatesh Iyer was supporting him in the middle. Chahal, on the other hand, had the edge of the latter on the opening delivery. Shivam Mavi has been placed ahead of Pat Cummins, and Yuzvendra Chahal just chucked up the ball to the batsman to force him to smash over the top. Mavi did exactly that, falling for the trap. Riyan Parag got a terrific catch after settling down underneath the delivery. Besides that, KKR had an opportunity since Pat Cummins entered to bat with a record as a hitter, having already done so previously versus the Mumbai Indians earlier in the ongoing IPL season.
He only needed to finish Chahal and then rely on the remaining 3 overs to get KKR and Sheldon Jackson home. Chahal delivered a true swing this time, which went away from the hitter after he outsmarted the other two batsmen with his consistency. Cummins pushed it, but it was edged to wicketkeeper Sanju Samson, who used the opportunity.
