IPL 2022: Week Seven Recap

IPL Week Seven Recap: The IPL 2022 caravan reached its seventh week. There were high-quality games where teams tried their best to outdo each other. The middle table muddle just got interesting with every passing game. There were a few legendary omissions from the playoffs race. It was an action-packed week that left fans with more questions than answers.

We Take a Quick Look at IPL Week Seven Recap:

#1 Two most successful IPL teams were knocked out

It was on expected lines but the eventual result did surprise everyone. Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings are the two most successful IPL sides. They have won 9 IPL titles between them. MI has won 5 and CSK has won 4. Incidentally, it has either been MI or CSK who has won the title since 2017. MI with just 3 wins in 12 games and CSK with 4 wins in 13 games are the first two to be knocked out this year. IPL 2022 is already unlike any other year.

#2 Gujarat become the first to qualify for the playoffs

At the end of week six, LSG had dethroned GT from pole position. It appeared as if they have peaked at the right time. GT though went about their usual business in week seven. They outplayed LSG in match number 57. The convincing win helped GT oust LSG from the top spot. This win also helped them become the first side to qualify for the playoffs.

GT went one better in the game against CSK. They ensured the top spot with a comprehensive win over CSK. GT has won 10 games (20 points) from 13 matches. No other team can reach 20 points other than GT. These consecutive wins have ensured GT a spot in qualifier 1. They will end IPL 2022 as table-toppers!

#3 The middle muddle

The competition in the middle of the table got more intense in week seven. Apart from Gujarat, none of the other teams have managed to seal a playoff spot yet. LSG lost two chances to make it to the playoffs. The consecutive losses against GT and RR will haunt them.

RR made steady progress to rise up to number 2 but yet they haven’t yet qualified. RCB suffered a huge dent in their net run rate with the loss against PBKS. DC and PBKS notched up wins, but they still need to take giant steps. SRH had a week to forget with a stunning loss against KKR. The Shreyas Iyer-led team on the other hand has kept it playoffs hopes alive. It is hanging on a very thin line!
